Nikki & Will’s Celestial Galaxy Themed Wedding Day

“Will and I are HUGE nerds. We love everything such as comic books, video games, anime, movies, you name it. We especially have a love of the series “Doctor Who”, which really brought us together. The series is about a time traveler who has adventures across “all of time and space” and hence, we want to go with a celestial/galaxy-themed wedding.

When we received this inquiry from Nikki for a fandom wedding, we were so excited and all in!! It’s not the norm, but neither are we! We love all things nerdy and different. A unique themed wedding just for Nikki and Will sure made for a fun and memorable wedding day and most importantly all done their way.

Nikki & Will chose the end of September for their wedding date as it is their dating anniversary of 16 years! How beautiful! It was a warm day, but we have some tricks to keep our guests and décor cool for an outdoor wedding. We like to set the ceremony seating and tables in the shade as much as possible and of course weather tends to cool down as the sun goes behind the rock formations.

Keeping our beautiful floral arrangements fresh in our vehicles with AC up until our guests arrive is top priority. We also used dry ice in our cooler for this wedding to keep the cake nice and chilled. The Doctor Who cake was decorated in a Starry Night buttercream and topped with a white chocolate Tardis making it extra delicate.

In case you didn’t know like us, a Tardis is in reference to Doctor Who. The Tardis is a time machine that resembles a Police telephone box and travels through space. No better place to be transported than the beautiful Valley of Fire as a destination wedding! It’s really out of this world as there is nothing like it. The Tardis was also used as their guest sign in frame, a photo guestbook with Polaroids, and Will’s wedding ring. Which is so neat!

As for the décor, we wanted it to emulate the night sky and to reflect Nikki & Will’s bond and love for Doctor Who. The ceremony wood arch was draped in dark blue fabric with bold florals in shades of blues, purples, pinks, black and painted gold leaves to tie in perfectly with our galaxy theme. For the wood tables we added dark blue linen, flower arrangements, fairy lights, mixed metals and gold geometric shapes.

Our favorite table detail was the marble plate with a stacked black plate to resemble a crescent moon shape with a custom galaxy place card. We wanted to incorporate quotes from their favorite series Doctor Who. So we chose the quotes, printed them onto velum and layered it with galaxy paper. We just loved the little nods throughout the wedding that tied it all together.

The ceremony was a favorite moment from the day and made our team tear up. When Will first saw Nikki walk down the aisle to the song “Sparkle” he just cried in joy. She truly sparkled walking in her starred tulle wedding dress and dip dyed teal layers underneath. His navy blue suit complimented her dress really well and we loved their cute matching Converse shoes. Will in his red Converse and Nikki in blue Converse shoes, which are great for walking around in the desert by the way!

Their vows were beautiful. Nikki’s love for Will’s big caring heart and appreciating it. Will’s love and devotion to Nikki.

Will shared in his vows a Dr. Who quote, “I will always remember that hate is foolish, love is always wise and I promise to always try to be nice but never fail to be kind.” Such a sweet ceremony and set the tone for the day.

After the ceremony, we celebrated! A fun photo booth with props made for lots of laughter and a seated dinner in the desert with fresh served tacos are always a hit! One of the guests shared a toast and his entire speech was built around the Pokémon game title. He had Nikki and Will laughing hysterically as they caught on to every joke. It was really cute as they are just on another level of fandom. The couple cut the wedding cake and then had a little something for everyone with an assorted dessert bar. Including cupcakes, strawberry cheesecake parfait cups, churros, cookies, and galaxy chocolate covered strawberries. Not only are they pretty, but tasty too!

They also had time for dances. Their music was all fandom themed and ranged from Final Fantasy to Lord of the Rings to Zelda and more. Their first dance to “Ocean Avenue” by Yellowcard & Hammock was another special moment that we adored.

We just loved how unapologetically themselves Nikki and Will were throughout the whole process and just leaned into all the things that made them unique and happy. Will and Nikki are very well matched and their love for each other is pure. They were so very kind and grateful to our team for putting together their dream wedding. Which makes us so very happy to hear! We sure put our heart into each wedding and loved being apart of their day.
