As a wedding photographer, capturing the perfect kiss between newlyweds is a moment that holds immense significance. Yes, of course, there is THE kiss after your marriage pronouncement; but there is also a lot more kissing the whole wedding day. Getting that picture-perfect kiss requires some preparation so we invite you to practice and offer some guidance. Let us explore some tips and techniques for couples on how to kiss for the camera on your wedding day.

We’ve labeled the three types of kisses we see at weddings:

The Pucker Kiss: This is when you stand a little bit apart and peck lips. The kind of kiss that you give each other in the morning before you leave for work. A simple sweet kiss, but too quick and pouty for pictures.

The Romantic Kiss: This is your classic movie scene kiss. Bodies smashed together, hands and mouths wildly loving on each other. Now don’t get us wrong – this kind of kiss is great! We recommend it! But… it often doesn’t translate well on a flat still image.

The Lean-In Kiss: THIS is where it’s at! Though… it’s not actually a kiss at all. It’s more like the anticipation before the kiss. This soft mouths, slightly open shows the intimate moment of the kiss, without the smashed faces.

We’ve made a video so you can see exactly what we are talking about:

Just a few other wedding day photography tips in general:

  1. Relax and Be Natural: The most important aspect of capturing an authentic kiss is to relax and be yourselves. Don’t feel pressured to perform or pose in a certain way. Instead, focus on each other and let your love shine through naturally. When you’re relaxed and at ease, it will reflect in the photographs.
  2. Practice Makes Perfect: While it may feel awkward at first, practicing the kiss beforehand can help you feel more comfortable and confident on the big day. Experiment with different styles of kissing – whether it’s a soft and romantic kiss or a passionate embrace – and find what feels natural for you as a couple.
  3. Focus on the Connection: Remember that the kiss is not just about the physical act, but also about the emotional connection between you and your partner. Focus on each other and let your love and affection for one another shine through. When you’re fully present in the moment, it will translate beautifully in the photographs.
  4. Take Your Time: Don’t rush the kiss. Take your time to savor the moment and enjoy each other’s company. A slow, deliberate kiss can be much more impactful and romantic than a quick peck. Remember to close your eyes and lose yourselves in the moment.

In conclusion, kissing for the camera on your wedding day is a moment to be cherished and celebrated. But most importantly, just let your love shine through! We want you to just soak up all the love and enjoy every moment of your special day.
