It wasn’t exactly a British invasion at the Valley of Fire, Nevada, but we at Cactus and Lace Weddings really enjoyed being around so many English accents this week. There is something so fun in getting to know people of different cultures, and nationalities, and people from the UK are some of our favorites, mainly because of the wonderful Dave and Kerry! And it is is fitting that, while we were not really invaded, Dave and Kerry first met at a revolution of sorts. Ok, it was at a bar named the Vodka Revolution, but we have to follow our journalistic momentum here.
Dave had first seen Kerry at work, and according to him, was mesmerized by this beautiful girl that floated out of the lift (elevator) and crossed in front of him on her way to the canteen (cafeteria for all you non UK folks). He had the perfect view of her from his office. He saw her often this way and knew he had to meet her. One thing led to another, and one evening a group from work met at the Vodka Revolution, and Dave decided to buy Kerry a drink. He purchased not just a glass, but an entire bottle of the best wine and when the group she was with left, he proceeded to get to know her and, as these love stories go, he finally convinced her and they began dating seriously.
We could go on and tell all kinds of tales that the best man dished up on Dave during the speeches given, but, seriously, I am sure no one is really interested in the leather thong Dave’s grandmother gave him as a kind of gag gift, and how he ended up in the hospital with it on, so we will just let that one lie.
But it does show Dave’s keen sense of humor, doesn’t it? Dave does have a serious side, though, and during the ceremony, his heartfelt vows and promises to Kerry brought tears to her eyes. And I am sure he felt the same as he heard her love to him in her vows.
And Dave wanted so very much to help Kerry have the wedding of her dreams, so much so, that they hired us to create something lovely for them. We accomplished this stylish, intimate, and elegant elopement with the help of our wonderful custom florists at The Front Porch. They created for us: very lovely bridal and bridesmaid bouquets, truly spectacular arch accents with succulents, lovely soft peach/pink roses, Queen Anne’s lace, (by special request from Kerry) a floral headpiece for the bride, and a teeny little miniature wrist corsage for daughter, Aria, along with other mini arrangements, and table settings in gold mercury glass. Dave and Kerry also wanted a very special cake artist to create their cake, and so they contacted Carlos Bakery, of Cake Boss fame, who created a delicious cake with sugar succulents on top. Carlos however, does not deliver wedding cakes, at least in Las Vegas. And so Dave’s two best men, proceeded to pickup and hand carry the large two tier cake and walk it back to the Bellagio, a good long hour away, in the warm Las Vegas desert heat to get it back to the hotel safely. Impressive fellows! But the cake arrived safely to the ceremony site at Seven Sisters! Amazing!
Dave and Kerry are such a wonderful couple, as attested to their many close friends, and wonderful parents and relatives, who flew across the ocean to be with them. We seriously enjoyed them so very much, we wanted to keep them forever. We were thrilled that they loved the wedding that together we created uniquely just for them.
But all good things must end, including this story!
Congratulations Dave, Kerry, and little Aria! Our heartfelt gratitude to you for allowing us to be a part of your special day. Thank You! All of our very, very best wishes to you!
